The Statue of Liberty exhibit, which opened in July 1986 and is located on the second floor in the pedestal of the Statue, traces the history and symbolism of the Statue of Liberty through museum objects, photographs, prints, videos and oral histories. In addition to historical artifacts and descriptive text, full scale replicas of the Statue's face and foot are also on display.
There are a lot of stairs to climb but if you want to wait you can take the elevator up to the pedestal. The crown is a different story. It's a small winding staircase that seems to go on forever. But it's all worth it for the amazing view and having the bragging rights of making it to the top :-)
The pedestal has plenty of space for good photos so you should have no trouble obtaining a great picture.
Had a fantastic trip yesterday to the statue! Book your tickets well in advance if you want to go to the crown. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to enjoy a bite to eat and some time with the pretty lady. Staff was friendly and kept the boarding process moving quickly. Excellent experience. Expect to spend a good 3-4 hours between the statue and Ellis Island. *Tourist beware of the dance crew that may be there when you get off the boat. If they pick u to come and be in the jumping finale, they'll all but expect a $20 "donation" from you in front of the entire crowd*
They say that when you are able to visit the Statue of Liberty in New York, you are one of the luckiest people to have seen such an amazing place! One of the most exciting parts of the tour before you go to Lady Liberty statue is the boat trip to Ellis Island. You will see how beautiful and diverse the American nation is. After touring, we felt hungry and we are so pleased that there is a restaurant in the place. It is a very pleasant recreational and educational experience for me and my husband as we are Asians. We took a lot of very beautiful photos too! :)
Enjoy!
The Statue of Liberty is more than a monument. She is a beloved friend, a living symbol of freedom to millions around the world. These exhibits are a tribute to the people who created her, to those who built and paid for her, to the ideals she represents, and to the hopes she inspires.
The historic landmark is so monetized it is disgusting. There is a very sturdy bridge to Ellis island that is not utilized for pedestrians. I was told “the bridge is in disrepair and cannot support the expected foot traffic weight”. I personally saw many government vehicles crossing over the bridge which I find disturbing. The public should have more access to the national treasure. There is too much political influence in this Statue and how the public is given access! This was my first time visiting NY and the iconic statue and these issues were very apparent to me. The food on the island is overpriced and distasteful. The lockers were cash only and the ATM charged to withdraw money. There was not one aspect of the experience I felt was not a money shake down! I cannot imagine Eiffel intended his artistic iconic statue would be used in this manner! Disgraceful
You must reserve a Crown ticket! The pedestal view is nice but the crown is so neat. The tickets sell out quick. Plan on purchasing tickets at least 2 months in advance. Preferably more if you can. I reserved my tickets 2 months in advance and all the weekends and Fridays were taken for the entire month! So I settled for a Thursday afternoon.
